"One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter."James Earl Jones
Speech and Language Therapy helps individuals of all ages to develop their communication abilities including speech, language, voice and stuttering and other verbal communication difficulties.
Speech and Language Therapy for children involves pursuing communication milestones that may be delayed or deviant. Some children may only need help with their language development; others may have problems with the mechanics of speech pronunciation or a stuttering difficulty. Some children may need help with listening difficulties which may impact their ability to learn.
Speech therapy can help children with regards to:
- VOICE (hoarse, nasal, loud and/or soft voice)
- SPEECH SOUNDS (poor pronounciation of sounds can affect intelligibility)
- LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING AND WRITING (difficulties in understanding questions, following commands, vocabulary and using full sentences)
- SOCIAL COMMUNICATION (difficulties in talking to other children and making friends)
- STUTTERING (repetition of sounds and words, long pauses and facial grimaces)
- COGNITIVE COMMUNICATION (thinking skills necessary for remembering, solving problems and using imagination)
Adults may need speech therapy after suffering a stroke or a traumatic head injury that changes their ability to use language. They may also benefit from Speech Therapy services targeted to improve their articulation, fluency, voice and general communication effectiveness and accent modification.
Success in Speech and Language Therapy will benefit adults in the following manner:
- Increase listening skill to assist you with paying attention and remembering information presented orally
- Gaining a greater understanding of your listeners
- Increased vocabulary, language skills, reading, spelling and writing will help harness work opportunities and career growth.
- To be more clear and effective when speaking thus increasing self-confidence and esteem.
